portable prompt for hug your younger self portrait: how to describe soft studio lighting, white curtain background, casual denim look & embrace pose so they both appear as same person but different ages. also what to tweak if faces/hands are distorted

studio portrait of an adult woman hugging her younger self as a small child, both with similar facial features and warm smiles, adult woman with brown hair in a messy top bun wearing a dark forest green t-shirt and light wash blue jeans, small girl with long curly brown hair wearing a white t-shirt and denim shorts and white sneakers, the child hugging the woman's neck and the woman holding the child, standing in front of soft white pleated curtains, soft diffused studio light with gentle vignette and slight blur at the edges, thin white polaroid-style border, photorealistic, natural skin texture, casual fashion, eye-level framing
Hug your young self only works if it's obviously the same person at two different ages. This one has an adult on right hugging tightly and centered to a child on left, both smiling straight into camera. Full height white curtain with gentle vertical folds for background, diffused/even lighting, edges bleeding off to subtle dark vignette w/ slight white border.
What the light and backdrop are actually doing
Curtain is not pure white. There are some faint grey shadows in the creases of it, so that it doesn't blow out. Light appears to be a big diffused light from camera left (soft enough there aren't harsh shadows under chin or nose on skin) yet directional enough to provide just a slight sheen on forehead and cheekbones. Vignette adds darkness at sides (left & right) and a bit of blur, drawing attention to the two faces in the center.
Why this matters for the prompt: if you write only "white background" the generator often gives a seamless paper roll with no texture. "Soft white pleated curtains with vertical folds, diffused studio light, gentle vignette at edges" tells it to keep fabric detail and falloff. If your result comes out too flat or too contrasty, add "even softbox light, low contrast, no harsh shadows" or reduce "vignette" to "very subtle vignette." For other ways to shape soft portrait light without losing skin texture, this guide to dramatic feathered portraits explains how diffusion and falloff are described in prompts.
How to phrase the double so it reads as one person
Generators will assume "mother and daughter" are two different people by default. You have to specify otherwise. Don't say "woman and little girl". Say instead: "same woman at two ages - adult woman hugging herself as a small child, same facial features, same eye color/smile" . And then specify age difference in years: "adult (late 20s) and herself (4-5 years old)". This helps to set the proportions right. Otherwise you'll get too tall kid or faces will be different.
You can control hands via pose wording. That's usually the weak point. If you write "child's arms around woman's neck, woman's arms around child's waist. Both hands visible, natural embrace" or something similar then it will be less likely to have extra fingers / merged arms. Otherwise if they are still melting together try just writing "one arm visible on each figure" or crop a bit tighter at the waist. Just untested suggestions based off of how image looks and not certain solutions (unknown model/settings used that resulted in this image).
Materials, clothes and framing
Styling is very casual on purpose to make the likeness work. Adult: dark forest green matte cotton crewneck t-shirt, light denim jeans with stitching and pocket detail (noticeable). Child: plain white cotton t-shirt, short light denim shorts. White sneakers. Hair - adult messy top bun of hair with loose strands sticking out. child has long voluminous curly brown hair. Skin is natural texture not plastic or too smooth.
describe materials by appearances, not physical properties. e.g., "matte cotton t-shirt" "light denim with faded wash" "soft curly hair texture" "natural skin pores". don't ask it to physically trace light or do optics computing etc. it simulates soft light effect on fabric and skin. eye level half body center framing, thin white print border with slight edge blur. if you want a cleaner fashion portrait without the border just remove "polaroid-style white border, vignette blur" and add "full sharp focus no border".
Where it breaks and what to try next
This is simulated, not a real photo. The trickery has it's limits. It will start to blur at this angle (especially in the overlapping arms and child's legs). Faces can get separated (it can look like another person for the kid) or denim texture looks waxy when you go 'ultra detailed'. When there are two bodies overlapping, hands/feet will be first things that warp.
If it doesn't look like them, try simplifying. One background color only, one simple description of light source and less clothing details then build up. If curtain is just flat wall - add "fabric folds, subtle shadows between pleats" . if image looks too smooth (like AI) add "natural skin texture, slight film grain. don't over retouch". All these are untested ideas to try iteratively. Image inspired prompt is approximation and cannot guarantee the same reconstruction.
